Crayon Rubbing Collages
I recently saw an article about 3 primary school children in Scotland whose artwork was replicated onto bronze plaques. It was and so mounted outside along a public promenade and then visitors can make pencil or crayon rubbings from the plaques and learn a little nigh the area'southward history.
AH! Genius!
I was ever fond of crayon rubbings, and my sister and I even fabricated an impression of Mother Goose's gravestone in Boston when we were there about 20 years agone.
We broke out the large onetime fat crayons the other night and went on a crayon-rubbing expedition around the house. We rubbed: The refrigerator, a flooring mat, linoleum floor tiles (ew), ceramic flooring tiles, the textured seat of a stool, a textured door.
It felt very scientific, as we explored and studied our surroundings. Of form, I tin never but let things become at that place- why not make an art project out of the rubbings! This project would be perfect for kids comfortable with using scissors.
Later y'all collect a bunch of rubbings in dissimilar colors and textures, cut out the elements for a lovely scene. Nosotros chose to make an beast of indeterminable origin, in a lovely grassy field.
This project would besides work if you cut out the elements for a face, or even only kept the crayon rubbing pages as is and painted with watercolor over them for a wax resist painting projection.
Some more than fun crayon rubbing ideas:
- Draw with glue (hot glue or Elmer's), let information technology dry and practice a crayon rubbing over your drawing
- Cut out shapes from tag board or cardboard, glue downwards to a piece of paper to rub over
- Find some rubber stamps to use every bit the texture
- Autumn leaves e'er brand excellent crayon rubbings
What do y'all think?
